Michael Hillman Bio
Michael Hillman has been responsible for taking numerous products from conceptualization to market since he joined Apple in 2000 as Product Design Lead for the iMac G4. He has over 19 years of experience in product design for established corporations, start-up companies and a product development consultancy firm. Michael's experience in engineering and product development spans a broad array of industries including medical devices, biotechnology, household appliances, industrial tools and most recently, computers and consumer electronics. He has been awarded 21 utility patents, 9 design patents and has over 30 pending patent applications. Prior to his current position at Apple, Michael was Senior Manager for iMac Product Design. Before joining Apple, Michael was Project Leader at Sundberg-Ferar Inc., Senior Design Engineer at Aastrom Biosciences, Inc., and Senior Engineer at both Dexide, Inc. and at Baxter Healthcare Corp. He serves as an advisor to the Entertainment Engineering and Design program at the Howard R. Hughes School of Engineering at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He earned his B.S. in biomedical engineering from Northwestern University.
Andy Baynes Bio
Andy Baynes is the head of Apple's Environmental Technologies team. Andy is responsible for the implementation of industry leading programs on environmental product design, including substance restrictions, design for recycling, climate change and energy efficiency. Since joining Apple in 2001, Andy has overseen the worldwide implementation of the RoHS directive, and worked to eliminate many of the restricted substances, such as hexavalent chromium, cadmium and specific bromines years ahead of the compliance deadline. Prior to joining Apple, Andy worked at s Advanced Technology Center in Stuttgart, Germany where he was responsible for environmental compliance, environmental communication, product take-back implementation and European Environmental R&D projects. Andy graduated with a Master of Science in Environmental Technology from Imperial College, London in 1995. He currently serves on the steering committee of CARE Innovation for future sustainable electronics and the steering board of EPEAT.
Jia Shen Bio
Jia is the Chief Technology Officer and co-founder of RockYou, and has focused extensively on graphic design and usability throughout his professional web development career spanning over 10 years. Prior to RockYou, Jia has held management roles leading the user interface and technical solutions teams at Open Harbor, and managing the majority of engineering at Iconix. Jia started working on scalable consumer applications at shopping tools internet provider Bluedog, a Stanford based startup, and was part of the original team at Bell Laboratories which developed the VoiceXML format into the W3C standard. In addition, Jia's experience has spanned enterprise sales and professional services functions, as he closed transactions and integrated with large multi-national corporation customers like Mitsubishi, Tyco, Flextronics, and DHL. Jia has a double major in Computer Science and Computer Engineering from Johns Hopkins University.
Dave House Bio
Dave House began his career in 1965 as a computer designer at Raytheon Computer and Communications Division. In 1968 he joined Honeywell Computer Control Division and in 1972 became director of computer development at Microdata. In 1974, House joined Intel Corp., and in 1978 became general manager of the company's Microcomputer Components Division. Over the next 13 years he lead the organization that developed the company's leading microprocessor product line, including the Pentium Processor, and grew that business from $40M to $4B per year. He also managed the team that developed the highly successful "Intel Inside" marketing program, one of the most recognized brands in the world and the most successful ingredient brand ever developed. In 1996 Dave launched Intel's Server Products Division leading Intel's entry into the server business where it now has over 85% market share. In 1996, after 22 years at Intel, House took the helm of Bay Networks as Chairman and CEO at a critical point following the merger of SynOptics Communications and Wellfleet Communications. Having effectively reshaped the organization and rebuilt the product line, he negotiated and led Bay Networks through its merger with Nortel and became President of Nortel Networks after the completion of the merger in 1998. House began a 15-month sabbatical in the fall of 1999. From January 2001 until April 2003, Dave was Chairman and CEO of Allegro Networks. He is currently Chairman of Credence Systems and Chairman of Brocade Communications Systems. He enjoys his vineyard, racing cars, heli skiing and heli snowboarding as well as mentoring others during his active retirement. House is also involved with numerous community organizations through the House Family Foundation and is on the boards of the Computer History Museum, The Tech and the Mountain Winery Kid's Foundation. House has a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Michigan Technological University and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University in Boston.
Richard H. Scheller Bio
Richard Scheller is executive vice president, Research and Early Development. In this role, he is responsible for overseeing the strategy for Genentech's research, drug discovery, business development and early development activities (through proof of concept in the clinic). Scheller also serves on s Research Review Committee. Scheller is a member of s executive committee and the Enlarged Roche Corporate Executive Committee. Scheller joined Genentech in 2001 as senior vice president, Research and was promoted to executive vice president, Research in 2003 and appointed chief scientific officer in June 2008. He assumed his current role in May 2009. Prior to joining Genentech, Scheller was appointed to the esteemed position of professor of Molecular and Cellular Physiology and Biological Sciences in 1993 and as an investigator with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute in 1994. Scheller received his first academic appointment to Stanford University in 1982. Scheller's work has earned him numerous awards, including the 1997 National Academy of Sciences Award in Molecular Biology. He is a member of the Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences, and has served on numerous advisory boards, including the National Advisory Mental Health Council of the National Institutes of Health. He has published more than 200 papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Scheller received his Bachelor of Science in biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin, Madison and was awarded his doctorate in chemistry from the California Institute of Technology, where he was also a postdoctoral fellow, Division of Biology. Scheller was also a postdoctoral fellow at Columbia University, College of Physicians & Surgeons.
